Will he or won’t he? Is Brett Favre playing in 2008?
From the day he held his “retirement” press conference, it certainly seemed as if #4 hadn’t had enough. He flies off the handle too easily and was just overly emotional that the Pack didn’t make a stronger effort — or any effort to get Randy Moss.
Hard to imagine what the big deal is. Green Bay came within a game of going to the Super Bowl last year. The Packers had their chances in an OT home loss to the Giants, the same Giants who stunned the Patriots (with Randy Moss) two weeks later to win Super Bowl XLII.
So here’s the deal. Favre still wants to play, but do the Packers want him back. It sounds a little bit like Green Bay is ready to turn to Aaron Rodgers and put the Favre legacy behind them.
If the Packers don’t want Favre and his salary to return, they have a few choices — release him outright or try to trade him. If they don’t do either, they have to pay him his full salary and he’s under contract for two more seasons.
Fantasy spin: This is a total guess, but something about Tampa Bay seems right. Head coach Jon Gruden loves QBs and has a relationship with Favre. The Bucs might also be looking for a way out of their deal with Jeff Garcia, who publicly said he’s not happy with his contract.
If Favre does play this year, he could be worth grabbing as a late #1 QB. Fill the rest of your roster with better players and have him as your QB isn’t so bad. His keeper league value is minimal because of his age. If you have him in a keeper and he gets off to a good start, try to unload him early for a good reward in trade value.
